January '11

January is almost over and lot's of things have been happening over here. Nainoa's language is growing everyday. He is getting really good with 3 syllable words. He can finally say his name correctly. Instead of "Noa" he can say "Nainoa." He can say simple 3 word sentences like "Take off shoes.", "Nainoa hold it." He still hitting, shooting, carrying any sort of ball. He loves looking at pictures of family and friends. His favorite picture album is from our wedding in Maui. I am so excited to go to Hawaii next Friday. We will be there for 2 glorious weeks. I am a little nervous about the flight but at least Eye will be there. We have been talking a lot about getting on the airplane to visit Tutu. Hopefully it will be smooth flying. (fingers crossed)

Visiting Byron at Southpoint Hotel. He was in town playing with his mother-in-law
Connie Stevens. Nainoa had a blast playing with Wilder (1o days younger). He especially had fun playing with Wilder's older brother.

Nainoa loves to give hugs. Sometime they are too hard. Wilder wasn't feeling it.

Nainoa is really into this Jack-In-The-Box toy lately.

My adventurous boy loves the park, especially these tunnels.

He is getting so tall!

Ahhhh the joys of co-sleeping. Poor Eye always gets the feet in the neck.

15 Months

We spent Nainoa's 15 month day at My Gym and the Natural History Museum. He loved running around My Gym. He especially loved hanging in the ball pit. His language skills are increasing everyday. It's so cool to watch his communication skills grow. His new words this weeks are "down" and "butt" and "Rora (Lola)." Today he actually gave me a real hug. I melted. I love those moments. I love my son. I love being a Mom!

11 days till 15 months

Now that my online Political Science summer class is over, I feel like I can post more often. (I got an A in the class from an instructor who rarely gives A's ) I haven't written much about Nainoa's milestones lately. I feel like over night he decided to talk. I was seriously worried that he was never going to say anything but "BALL!" So here are the words he can say.
  • Mamma (I melted the first time he actually said it with intention)
  • Wanamelo (watermelon)
  • 0-0 ba (Coco Puffs...yes I let him try it..bad Mom)
  • Peeth (Peas)
  • Uh-oh
  • Dis (this...said like a true Pilipino)
  • Dat (I think he seriously is going to have the Lolos accent)
  • Koko (kiko)
  • Hiiyeee (hi)
  • Gapes (grapes)
  • Ow-Ow (dog)
  • Bak-Bak (chicken)
  • Babuls (bubbles)
  • Boo-k (it's very cute because he says the word like it's a two syllable word)
  • Giyan (Gillian)
  • Dooyan (Dorian)
  • Brrrmmmba (ambrosia which is my word for breast milk..that story in another post)
I finding myself controlling my swear words because he is such a parrot. Nainoa is basically running everywhere. He never just walks anywhere. He runs full blast. My twin nieces are here and he loves playing with them. They are such a great help now that Eye is gone for 10 weeks. Nainoa also loves to climb our stairs. There are 14 un-carpeted stairs that leave bruise marks on his legs because he climbs them so much. He is getting better with the scoot, sit, stand on the way down but he still needs an extra hand.

Nainoa is getting too heavy for the sling so we decided we needed an alternate way to put him to sleep to save our backs, especially Lolo's. We are also going to visit Dadda on the road and we probably will get a babysitter for at least one night so that I can see the show. Two nights ago I breast fed him until he was almost a sleep and then I put him in the crib and started to pat his back. He cried and protested for 45 minutes. I kept singing, continued to pat his back, and gave him kisses when he stood up. I had to keep laying him on his side over and over again. The crying was killing me especially now that he can say, "Mamma." When he finally went to sleep I knew that he didn't need ambrosia to fall asleep, he could actually do it himself. The second night after our bedtime routine I put him in his crib after I nursed and started to sing and pat. He rolled around, stood a few times and actually started talking and singing. He slept in 20 minutes! No crying! I was so excited that today I decided to do the sing/pat for his nap and he fell asleep in 30 minutes. Whoa! Tonight I had to teach so Lolo put him to bed with a little of slinging then transfered awake and did the sing/pat. After 10 minutes he went to sleep. I still love to nurse and don't plan on weaning just yet but if he doesn't need it for a nap or to bed I feel like that's half the battle.

The Chair

Auntie gLo gave Nainoa this cute chair with his name on it. Once he learned how to get off of it safely he did this all day.

It's here finally!

I haven't posted in weeks. Here's the first installment of many posts to come. About two weeks ago Nainoa's top front tooth started to come in and now he's getting two more! He's been fussy here and there and up a bit more at night but over all he's still a happy boy.

10 Months!

I'm not going to start this post with, "I can't believe it's been blah blah blah." (I guess I just did) This month has been a huge milestone for him. He crawled on all fours, stood up by himself without any help, and took 4 little steps on my birthday! Lolo predicted that he would be walking by 10 months and he might be right. Nainoa likes to
  • Stand and flap his arms up and down.
  • Bang two objects together in his hands.
  • Make the sign for light.
  • Eat his toes.
He also love the book, "Buenas noches, Gorila." There are many things Nainoa dislikes too. As you can see in my previous post he will definitely tell you if he is unhappy. Nainoa does not like activities such as changing his diapers or being in his play pen. He also has a bit more stranger anxiety too.

Today we celebrated his 10 month by going to the park with his girlfriend Pema. She is sooooooo smart! I was so impressed by her Chinese language and signing skills. I realized today how much of a boy Nainoa is. He was all over the place, getting into everything, eating leaves, crawling everywhere, getting dirty. I can't wait to post the pictures from today. Nainoa and Pema look so cute playing together!

Amy's Playground

Today I took Naiona to Amy's Indoor Playground. It was very clean and they had lots of toys, books, bouncies and even an infant area. He had a blast crawling around touching everything. He is so into textures. I love watching him feel his way through the world first by touch and then by mouth. Nainoa loves to practice standing and he's even trying to walk. (He took 2 tiny steps at Auntie Rocky's today) He really liked playing with these trucks while standing. Naiona is so much fun to watch. I love when he's so happy playing and exploring. Hopefully we'll make it back here again with Marls & Pema before we go home.

Weighing in at...

Nainoa weighed in 24.5 pounds, off the percentile chart in weight. He is 28 3/4 long, 70% in height. Doctor says he looks great. His iron was low and we have to get a lab test done. Blech I hate that. There is a recipe in the book, Super Baby Food, that I need to make called Super Porridge. It is basically homemade cereal that consists of whole grains and beans. That will boost his iron for sure. Anybody have any good home made recipes that consists of lots of Iron?

9 9 9noa

Nainoa is 9 months today! I can't believe that 9 month ago today he was almost born at home and nine months before that Eye had that clairvoyant dream! What a trip these 27 months have been. Nainoa is such a wonderful baby. I am so lucky that he is ours. I don't know how else to explain the way I feel about him. I just love him so much! Okay enough lovey dove. New things happening are:
  • LOVES to practice standing. He longest standing on his own was 18 seconds.
  • He is getting into eating. Fav foods are peas, sweet potatoes, oatios, organic puffs, pears and apples and of course his momma's milk.
  • He wakes himself up at night practicing standing up. It seems like every couple of hours he is standing up in his crib, crying. I don't know what to do about it. Is it just another phase that will pass?
  • His fav words are "DADADADADADADA" he can say "mmmaaamma" but he says "dadada" much more. He is so much more vocal these days.
  • He definitely has separation anxiety. When I come home, say hi and leave the room to go wash my hands he has a FIT!
  • Nainoa is down to 2 naps now. He goes to bed around 6:30 pm and wakes up at 6:30 am sometime 5am which really is challenging. He starts off in his co-sleeper then transfers around 11pm when I go to bed.
  • Everything goes into his mouth now. EVERYTHING. But he still has no teeth.
  • Nainoa is so happy, sociable and just so cute.
Eye comes home tomorrow! Lola and Lolo are going to galavanting since Eye will be home, so Daddy will be spending a lot of time with Naiona while I go to school and teach everywhere. Next week is our pediatrician appointment. I can't wait to see how many pounds he is now. I think he's slimming down now that he is more mobile. Sigh...I can't believe my baby is 9 months! HAPPY 9 months 9noa!!!

8 Months!

Nainoa is 8 months old today! Sigh...I say this every month, but it is happening WAY too fast! He's growing up to be such a little dude. Nainoa loves to talk and yell. Right now his favorite word is "dadadadadaddaddad" (of course)

He still isn't the biggest fan of eating. I wouldn't say he's a good eater just yet. He does like rice cereal with breast milk, peas and applesauce. Oh and he likes mangoes too!

He LOVES to stand now. Lolo's new favorite thing to do is count how fast he can stand. His best time is 5 seconds. Today Lolo said he stood up without hanging on for one second!

Not sure how much he weighs yet. I'm thinking he is 22.5 or maybe 23 pounds. We'll see on his 9 month pediatrician visit.

Oh we were all featured in our friend Leigh's blog. Her blog post was about Baby Cuddles.

I've been a bit overwhelmed these past couple of days. I started school on Tuesday. Hopefully in two years I can get my Physical Therapy Assistant degree. I am so thankful for Lola & Lolo's help. With Eye on tour they take care of the boy while I go to school, study, teach Pilates,Barre and blog. I seriously could not do it with out them here. I KNOW how lucky I am. Now if I can fit in sleep somewhere in this equation it will be ALL good!

The D

This has been happening the past few days. First it was just the jaw moving up and down. Then a day later the sound came out!

Gettin' his move on

Gone are the days when I could leave Nainoa on the bed and have him be in the same position when I return. He is getting his move on for sure! His favorite thing is to spin his self around. He uses his big belly as the base and moves 360 degrees. He can almost crawl and likes to lift his but in the air to a modified downward dog. Nainoa gets soooo excited when he scooches foward. He lets out a big yelp as if he's saying, "Mommy look at me go!"

He is 22.5 pounds, 27.5 inches long and still above the 95% percentile. I think he is getting the hang of this whole eating thing. So far Nainoa has had rice cereal, avocado, pears, applesauce, peas, bananas and sweet potatoes. He eats 3 times a day. Dr. Moore said that I can start giving him diluted apple juice after each meal to help him soften his doodoo. (tmi?)

I am getting very excited for Hawaii. Eye is there now doing press. All of our clothes are there waiting for us to arrive on Christmas day. I am so glad that we are going at the age Nainoa is now. He is so much fun to be around. He's always so happy and cheerful. I can't wait for him to hang out with his ohana!

Started out in this position

Somehow he ended up here trying to downward dog!

Trickery in the Chicco

Ivan put together our high chair given by Grandma Pat. Baby was having such a good time playing in it! Then Nainoa started to chew the edge of the tray so I put some sweet potatoes right were he was gnawing and he seemed to like eating. He kept on going back for seconds so I kept putting more sweet potatoes on the edge of the tray. Whatever works!

Mmmm not so much.

This past Saturday we tried sweet potatoes. When I gave him his first small teaspoon of it he smushed it around his mouth. I thought, "Oh this is going to be easy he likes it!" Even his second bite he kinda liked. Then the back arching started as well as the turning of the head. There was no third teaspoon because he was totally wasn't into it. Then this morning I tried again, and he took in a small tiny teaspoon of sweet potatoes. As you can see by this photo Nainoa was NOT feeling it at all. I'll keep trying though, maybe he'll like pears, or apples or even avocados. Keep you posted on his taste buds.
