Socialize Get Down...

Onesie provided by Auntie D

Eye is still on tour with Dan but he comes home tomorrow! Although we do miss Daddy, Nainoa and I had a great day today. I started off the morning going to the gym. I did the Stair Master today and my legs are feeling it! When I came back I taught Pilates with Nainoa in the Moby. He was sooooo good. Slept through the whole session. I love when that happens! Then we cuddle up on the couch, watched Michael Jackson videos and feel asleep for 3 hours. After that we went to Bobby's for a barbeque. I am feeling a lot more comfortable driving around with him by myself. Today was my 2nd time out and about, just Nainoa and I. I like feeling independent. I know I can do it, I just have to do it more. The bbq was fun. It was just a hand full of Stomp friends. Everyone was really attentive to me. Asking if I needed anything. It was nice. We love Bobby's house because he had a great papasan swing for Nainoa and an awesome glider chair that was perfect for breast feeding. Nainoa was sooo good at the party. He just slept, ate, pooped and slept again. "What a good baby!" I love hearing that, because I do believe he is a good mellow baby. At least for now!

Pediasure Boobies

Yesterday we took Nainoa for his one month check-up. He already weighs 11lbs 13oz. Almost 12 pounds and he's only 5 weeks old! The nurse and the doctor were so amazed that he's gained so much weight by just my breast. They usually like to see babies double their weight by 3 months and Nainoa is 2 pounds shy of doubling his weight at 5 weeks! He is in the 90 percentile for his weight and 50 percentile for his head. (The percentile chart is based on bottle fed babies so he was extra impressed) We had to have the Dr. explain that to us because we really didn't understand what that meant. Dr. Moore said he was very healthy boy and to keep up the good work breast feeding. He also said I was making Pediasure in my breast which made us laugh. HA!! As I am blogging I am pumping my right breast and I have pumped 6oz. Six ounces off of one side! I am sooooo amazed on the female body and how it produces nourishment for it's offspring. I mean it really amazes me. Making so much milk does have it's set back though. Well it's not a big deal, but I have such a forceable let down that Nainoa spits up a lot sometimes chokes because he is getting so much milk, so fast. I've been trying different techniques that I got off of KellyMom. (Love that website.) It seems to be helping.

Eye leaves tomorrow for his east coast tour with The Dan Band. It will be his first time away from baby. I am so thankful I have my parents here!

Go see the Hangover

Yesterday Eye and I actually went on a date! We left Nainoa with Lola and went to see the Hangover. I was a bit nervous leaving him for so long. I kept thinking about him all the way to the movies, when we were in line, during the preview and a bit when the movie started. But the movie was so HILARIOUS that I relaxed a bit and really got into the movie. Eye's BFF Dan, from The Dan Band, is the wedding singer and he is so funny. You have to go see it!!!

Also Eye is going on a West Coast tour with Dan. Check out the dates here and he is also going to play the Nokia in L.A. on July 11th! Buy tickets here!

One Month Old!

Yesterday my Nainoa made one month old! He is getting sooooo big! My parents left for a week and when they came back they even said how much he grew. He's got chubs arms and legs. My little Michelin Man! He's beginning to hold his gaze. He'll stare at you if you talk to him. He loves his Grandpa. When Grandpa talks to him in Tagalog just stares. It is the sweetest thing! He's losing his front top hair. He's starting to look like an old man. :) But a cute old man.

Births Beyond Belief???

This week on Discovery Health is Baby Week. My good friend text me to watch their first episode of the week called, "Births Beyond Belief." The episode followed 3 vaginal births. The first birth was an unintentional unassisted birth in Hawaii. The husband ended up delivering the baby because the wife's birth happened so fast. The husband did an amazing job. It was so natural and NORMAL. The midwife ended up coming 15 minutes after the healthy baby was born. She delivered the placenta. It was such a peaceful beautiful birth attended by the mother in law and their two children. The second birth was in Los Angeles. The couple was planning a homebirth but couldn't not have one because the baby was breeched. In California midwives are not allowed to delivery breeched babies. They had to deliver in the hospital so the couple found the one doctor to deliver their breeched baby. Even though she had to compromise and get an epidural, the delivery looked so natural and NORMAL. The Dr. and nursing staff was so great and the happy couple had their vaginal birth that they wished for. The 3rd birth was in New Jersey. It was a water birth attended by a midwife, doula and family. The baby came out so beautifully, straight into Mommy's arms. Again so natural and NORMAL. It's so interesting that the media labels what women do NATURALLY as something that is "beyond belief." No wonder our C-section rate is at it's highest rate. Natural, NORMAL, beautiful births are not the norm any more even though women have been doing natural births for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. This makes me sad and angry. Yes hospitals are necessary if someone is a high risk pregnancy, or if there is a medical necessity. I ended up having an unplanned C-section. That was a necessity. But to label NORMAL, NATURAL births as something "beyond belief," is just not right. (Thursday there is another episode Freebirthing.)

On a side note, I found myself weeping, watching the two homebirths. I wasn't sure if it was purely tears of joy for the couples or it was pain and disappointment of NOT having my own homebirth. I still don't know. I think it was a bit of both. I guess I am not done healing from my disappointment. It still hurts and there was a pinch in my heart when watching those amazing homebirths. But I guess that's part of the process.

BFF visits Vegas

My BFF and her family came to visit us last weekend. It was her first time meeting Nainoa. It was soooooo great having her around! Kai, her 2 year old loved, hanging out with "Baby Nainoa." He was so great and gentle with him. It was so surreal to realize that we are both our Moms. It was such a trip to be hanging out breast feeding our kids. We have been best friends since high school so it's wild to think about how far we have come in our lives. My BFF is such a great mom and an awesome friend. It was so nice to spend quality time together. We celebrated all weekend, with food, outings, good company, and even champagne! She is such an amazing mother. I am so proud of her and how she has raised Kai. I miss her so much! I wish we lived in the same city. I love you Mish!

Me and the Moby

My BFF gave me this Moby wrap. I LOVE it! We actually took Nainoa out into the world. We all went to the shark exhibit at Mandalay Bay and then afterward we went to one of our favorite restaurants Border Grill. I was nervous taking the boy out in public. He was asleep almost the whole time and then right at the end of the exhibit he started to cry. I got nervous taking him out to breast feed, but all I had to do was put on the Moby. I was breast feeding while walking to Border Grill. It was great! I felt so liberated!!! During our lunch he only cried a little bit, because he was probably uncomfortable in the Moby, but all I had to do was shift him a little bit and he went right back to sleep. Even though he cried for only less than a minute I thought to myself, "oh no, I'm that guy with the crying baby at the restaurant." My anxiety only lasted a a few seconds. Thank goodness for my BFF. She calmed me down and made me feel okay. I had such a great time with her, Kai and Ed. More pictures to come!

Happy Anniversary!

Three years ago on June 11, my husband and I got married in Maui.  It was one of the best weeks of our lives.  We rented a beach house big enough to fit my whole family, my BFF and her husband, plus some of my friends rented out little cottages on the same property.  We had our own compound right on the beach. Our wedding was the most perfect day.  So much aloha surrounded us from our ohana, friends and each other.  Here are just a few photos plus our wedding video.   Mahalo to our friends and family that made that day so special to us!

Super Mom

Yesterday I taught my second  private Pilates session post cesarean.   I instructed wearing my P-sling while Nainoa was fast asleep.  He almost made it all the way through the hour.  About 40 minutes into the private, he peed right through his P-sling.  I changed him, then breast fed him AND taught at the same time!   I ROCK!  It felt sooooo good to know that I can teach while being a babywearing, breastfeeding momma!   Yea for me!  Thank you J for being such an understanding student.

What's for breakfast....Umm..hello...Mommy?

My parents left this morning for Los Angeles today.   They both have doctor and dentist appointments all week.  Even though they will be gone only a week I must admit I got a little nervous.  WHO'S GONNA TAKE CARE OF ME????? Eye and I have been soooo spoiled since my parents moved in with us.  I haven't had to cook, do laundry or clean the house in over two months.  My mom insisted that we get rid of our cleaning lady who comes twice a week.  I know...I know...I know we can do it and we'll be just fine.  In fact I am kinda excited to see how life is with just the 3 of us.  My other friends do it all the time.  We'll be fine.  We might loose a little weight from just eating cereal 4 times a day, our laundry might be a mile high and the dished might not get done, but hey at least we have each other.  Thank God my BFF is coming on Thursday!!!!!

Difference in Care

Yesterday I had two appointments, one with the OB who did my C-Section and the other one with my midwives April and Sherry.  I just wanted to note how different the care is between Dr. Bolnick and my awesome midwives.   I must say that Dr. Bolnick's nurse Stella is awesome and she really wanted to know how I was doing.  I spent most of the time talking to her.  She cooed at Nainoa and asked me how I was doing.   When Dr. Bolnick came in his visit with me lasted one minute.  I am not even kidding.  He poked around my belly and said,  "K...looks good, see you in 4 weeks."   I thought to myself,  THAT'S IT?   My abdominal was cut open and that's all your going to give me?  One minute of your time????  REALLY??  So I had to make up questions just to feel like I had some time.   No sex for 4 more weeks.  I can walk and run.  No sit ups.  I can drive.  See ya later alligator.

Sherry, Nainoa and April

I couldn't wait to see April and Sherry.   When I arrived and went to her office, we all greeted each other with hugs.  Our time together lasted almost an hour!  We weighed Nainoa and he weighs 9lbs 3oz!  He's gained two pounds since he was born.  April was saying that they like to see newborns come back to their birth weight at two weeks and Nainoa went past his.  Considering he was a NICU baby, that's pretty good!   April said I had great boobs for breast feeding and I must say I think she's right.  I lost 20 lbs. too!  :)  She asked me how breast feeding was going, how I was sleeping,  how my bleeding was,  how my emotional state was and more.   She held Nainoa the whole time.   We talked about my birth and how I was strong and I did everything I could.   A vaginal birth was just not the way Nainoa was going to come out.  It was so nice to talk to Sherry and April.  Ivan thanked them for all that they did.  I really didn't want the visit to end.  I feel so bonded with April and Sherry, even though I ended up in the hospital.  To me, they are the ones I spent the most important and memorable part of my labor.  I am definitely going to do a VBAC with my next child.  Hopefully we'll still live in Vegas because I really would love to have April, Sherry and Tiffany as my birth team.

Visitors

Nainoa is two weeks and one day old!  Yesterday he had to get his second PKU test.  They had to prick his heel to get blood out and he was NOT happy about that.  These past two weeks we had a lot of visitors. We loved having Tutu Charlotte all the way from Oahu.  She left yesterday and we were a little sad.  We'll just have to go to Hawaii this year and spend time :)  We absolutely loved all the company!!!   Thank you everyone.  ALOHA!!!

Slinging it

My good friends sent me this P-Sling.  I have been using around the house and on short walks with Eye.  I love it!  Nainoa seems to like it.  He usually falls right to sleep as soon as I put him in and start walking around.   It's really convenient when I want him close to me but I want my hands free.  I envision me using the sling when I teach Pilates.  Hopefully he'll continue to love it as he gets older.  Thanks K, D, and A!!

Falling in love...

I am falling in love with another man.   It's a problem.  I am seriously addicted to his smell, his cheeks, his forehead, his nose...everything about him.  I can stare at him all day and give him kisses all day long. My husband knows all about it.  He fully understands and is supportive.  Sigh...got to get back to my other man now.   Love is wonderful is it not?
